First Ever Riata Showcase Horse Sale!
Every year the Riata website covers all major horse sales around the country containing Riata eligible horses. But the time had come to gather finished Riata rope horses and nearly finished horses into one exclusive sale. To make the deals even sweeter, each horse that sold through the sale on Sunday, Dec. 8 is now eligible for the $100,000 Riata Showcase Horse Sale Incentive for all future Riata Championships. This Incentive will be awarded each year to the highest placing sale horses at the Riata Championships.
The first-ever Riata Stallion Incentive Showcase Horse Sale saw 50 horses walk through the South Point Equestrian Center ring, selling $2 million in horses in its first year in front of a crowd of 3,000. The same sized crowd attended the preview the prior day and it was a clear sign this will be a popular yearly event.
The 2016 Bamacat gelding Sue Bama and a 2021 Winners Version mare Runnnin Winners each dropping the gavel at $200,000. Plus, Riata Champion heel horse TRR Lucky Hometown brought $125,000 as the high-selling heel horse of the event.
Sue Bama was consigned by Chad and Paje Turner of Turner Performance Horses, while Runnnin Winners was consigned by A & C Racing and Roping. Tripp Townsend consigned TRR Lucky Hometown.
Special Note - Lot #1 in the Riata Showcase Horse sale, SF Freckles Four, by Four Bonnie Bay went straight from the sale to the #11.5 Finale and carried his rider to a second-place win. The horse, with rider Zac Mabry bagged $119,500, plus another $20,000 in the Riata Side Pot.
The top five horses averaged $147,000, the top ten horses averaged $114,000. The Showcase Sale will return in 2025, consignments will open in March.
