Crazy Mt. Pleasant Side Pot

Crazy Mt. Pleasant Side Pot

Jun 12, 2025

Mt. Pleasant, TX – June 2025

Ever seen anything like this in team roping? Nine Riata horses entered the Mt. Pleasant side pot for $10,000. That's a nine-team Riata jackpot, with $7,300 in added money. We said we'd pay a minimum of four places — and we did. Four placings with nine teams! One in two got a check. That's got to be some kind of record.

Even with the lighter turnout, Riata horses walked away with $33,000 in total earnings at Mt. Pleasant. No question — by the end of the season, Riata Stallions will have added over a million in side pot earnings.

We knew Mt. Pleasant might be small, but we needed to get a few folks from the South and East qualified for the $100,000 Riata Incentive in Guthrie. But here's the real message—especially for you Northwest folks: the Riata Side Pot is headed to Idaho for the WSTR Pocatello Qualifier, June 27–29, with another $10,000 up for grabs. Might be another small one... and you can hope it is. Lightning struck once—maybe it strikes twice.

Let's talk winners.

Keith Coleman has been red-hot the past three months, and he kept it rolling in Mt. Pleasant. He pocketed $4,000 in the side pot, plus $10,150 for placing first and fourth in the #12.5 Heartland roping. He was riding Boon Away, a gelding by Once In a Blue BoonBoon Away has added over $26K to his sire's progeny earnings since March 1st.

Joe Burk Higgins, one of the few who's entered every Riata Side Pot so far, kept his streak alive with a second-place finish. He earned $3,875 in the #11.5 and picked up a $3,000 Riata check, bringing his weekend total to $6,875. He was riding Im A Lady Every Time, a mare by One Time Pepto.

Third went to Tanner Caudle, who scored $3,175 for his second-place finish in the #13.5. He added a $2,000 Riata check riding Mr Canyon Cat, by Metallic Cat, for a $5,175 total.

Rounding out the top four was Zac Brasher. He took home $2,240 for fourth in the #10.5 and added a $1,000 Riata payout on TRR Lady Becaco Pep, a Pepcid mare.

And just so you know — it's not too early to start planning for the biggest Riata Sidepot of the year: $20,000 up for grabs at Cheyenne Big Daddy, July 16–20. Don't miss it.
