Riata Buckle's partner finder program paired the winning team of Alabama's Tyler Singleton and Colorado's Jesse Jolly which resulted in a double-dipping $115,432 payday to win the #12.5 Riata Buckle Nov. 3, 2023 at the Lazy E Arena.
Singleton, who runs a scrap metal business with his family, and Jolly, who runs cows in Eastern Colorado, didn't have a run for the #12.5, but the Riata Buckle's Facebook partner finder paired them up.
Singleton was aboard Lone Jonez, a 2018 gelding by Travelin Jonez and out of Rubies Lil Siss by Mister Dual Pep. Jolly's weapon of choice was JJ Fire In The Hole, a 2019 gelding by PG Dry Fire and out of Hixie by Docs Hickory.
Singleton and Jolly went 32.61 on four steers in the Riata Buckle #12.5 to earn the $91,432 aggregate win. Both men also rode Riata Buckle futurity eligible horses (under the age of 5), so they banked an additional $24,000 in the incentive.
"We both told the Riata we needed some runs, and they put us together and it ended up working out good," Singleton, 22, said. "I bought this horse at the Clovis said a month ago, and it worked out he was a Riata horse. So that's what made us end up coming."
Jolly came to the 2022 Riata Buckle, and he'd bought 4-year-old JJ Fire In The Hole with Riata Buckle hopes last year.
"I looked at him because I wanted a younger Riata-eligible horse," Jolly, 37, said. "He lives with about 15 other geldings and gets used a good bit. Coming out of California, I think he had a pretty hard first winter, but I ranched on him all summer and we didn't really get to rope that much. He's just a good minded, great horse."
Jolly had missed to win first or second in the #14.5 short round for Justin Briggs, but he was locked and loaded for the #12.5.
"We'd drew on the top side of the herd all day," Jolly said. "The steers ran good patterns, and it was a pretty easy day. They set it up for us, and he set it up for me."
